Seriously? That was the first word that came to mind when I heard about the Ketogenic Diet craze. Aka: Rapid weight loss through placement of a nasogastric feeding tube. As dietitians, we’re often asked to rate the latest and greatest fad diet. We usually try to present the pros and cons to our clients and help them make informed decisions about their weight loss plan.

I get a a lot of questions, especially this time of year, about my thoughts on certain "extreme diets"-- high protein/ low carb, liquid diets, hormone injections, appetite suppressants, juicing, etc. My answer is generally: "I'm sure you'll lose a lot of weight quickly, but you'll gain it all back when you get tired of it." (And mark my words, you will get tired of it.)
