A few weeks ago, Doug Jones, a Raleigh native and North Carolina State University alumnus who now lives in Fredericksburg, VA, was in town for a visit. Doug was playing disc golf at NCSU when he suddenly collapsed from a heart attack. Due to the quick actions of NC State alumni Mark Denton and Spencer Cox, as well as the Raleigh Police DepartmentWake County EMS and the team at UNC REX, Doug survived his ordeal. Doug was brought to the UNC REX Emergency Department, had triple bypass surgery performed by UNC REX cardiothoracic surgeon Alan P. Kypson, MD and spent nine days in the hospital. Only a few weeks later, he has recovered and is getting back to his normal life.
